Mine was nice. I’ve noticed my kids have more appreciation for the gifts the more we either a) spread them out over time or b) reduce the amount of gifts. A whole lot of gifts in the morning seems to decrease their value. One gift in the morning and a couple more later that day seem to give the kids time to fully appreciate each item they get which, in turn, increases the chance the item will be well looked after instead of tossed into a corner of their room.
As for me and my husband, we enjoyed dairy-free hot carob* (our variation on hot chocolate), took things very easy, had a simple Christmas dinner with lots of laughter and family, and I organized my thoughts regarding the direction I’m taking. I’ll post more on my current writing and reading tomorrow.
In all, it was a wonderful Christmas. I’m looking forward to doing the same next year.
So, how was your Christmas? All go well?
* For those who are interested, here’s our substitute for hot chocolate.
2 cups milk alternative (we use either soymilk or coconut milk)
2 T rapadura (sugar will work as well… honey does too but it adds a twist to the sweet aspect of the drink that some may not like)
2 t carob powder
Put all in a blender and pulse on a low speed a few times. You want to break up the carob without creating a lot of foam. Pour into a saucepan and heat on medium, stirring often, until it reaches desired warmth. If I’m in a hurry, I may bump the temperature up to medium-high but you need to really watch it if you do that. Do not boil.
Makes 2 servings.
